Special Plate Number to Be Issued for Japan 2019

It's official; Japan will host the 2019 Rugby World Cup. Yes, the Japanese will be hosting the world’s third biggest sporting event two years from now. In fact, it's no longer a headline as it was announced eight years ago. And the ninth edition of this event will be the first ever global showcase to be hosted in Asia.

But there is one major challenge. The 2019 Rugby World Cup will have to compete fiercely with the Olympics games in terms of headline. So far, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics game has been winning the battle of media publicity. That’s not all.

A recent review by the Tokyo metropolitan government has shown that 45% of the residents in the capital city are not even aware that Japan will host the tournament. How bad could this be since the event is only two years away? And to think of it, this is the third major sporting event in the world of sport.

So How Can the Government Publicise This Event?

The answer to the above question is simple. A unique initiative launched by the Rugby Committee in conjunction with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism is set to make everyone aware of this major event.

The transport ministry has sanctioned a commemorative automobile license plate which will feature the official logo of the 2019 Rugby World Cup.  The plates are to be issued nationwide. Historically, Japan’s license plate has never featured any special design. It has always been in the standard form based on the Japanese law.

The plates will give the tournament a special and unique profile wherever these cars or trucks are driven in Japan. Only few will argue against this innovative initiative. Everyone who glimpses this license plate will automatically remember the event, thus creating a lasting awareness among the residents of the country

What the Rugby Committee Feels about This Action.

In a press statement released by the rugby committee, Chief Executive Akira Shimazu thanked the ministry for the help rendered to help publicise the event.

He also stated that public awareness would help raise the tournament's profile and described how massive it is for Japan to be hosting one of the world’s biggest sporting events. Shimazu claimed that with the help of the nation, Japan could host what would be the best world cup that will leave an indelible mark in the memory of sport fans.

Benefits of the Licensed Plates

The revenue from the license plate is set to be used in developing the local transportation infrastructure of the 12 cities hosting the matches. And the tournament is scheduled to hold from September 20, 2019 to November 2, 2019.

Meanwhile, the ministry of transportation has started accepting applications for the plates and planned to commence the distribution on April 3, 2019. The committee has however called on everyone to switch to this special plate.

The Impact of the World Cup on Japan’s Economy

Hopefully, Japan will experience such significant economic impact. The hosting of major events can be described as a low investment but high-profit return. With an expected population of about 400,000 international visitors and a provision of over 40,000 jobs, the country could make a whooping sum of 2.3 billion pounds.

Rugby world chairman Bill Beaumont described the six weeks of the competition as one which will deliver various sporting, social and economic benefits on a regional and national basis.

Indeed, this is a mind-blowing event and should not be taken with levity. Japan cannot afford to fail themselves let alone fail the whole world.
